11:31 <tlecouffe> hi... I'm using the API console (i've created a layer in my app and a place/trigger). Should I expect to see the layer I created when I run a layer/list ?
11:39 <starbuckt> If your layer was created using your application token it will not show up when you run layer/list in the API console. This is because you're being authenticated as your own personal user account when using the console.
11:43 <tlecouffe> Could I subscribe the the layer I created then? I guess I'm trying to figure out how to test triggers
11:43 <starbuckt> tlecouffe: you should be able to subscribe, you just need to make the layer public.
11:43 <patrickarlt> tlecouffe: yes just make a layer/subscribe/your_layer_id call as the user you want to subscribe to the layer
11:44 <starbuckt> You can also use our visual layer editor: http://developers.geoloqi.com/account/layers

11:49 <tlecouffe> Nice! I think that worked
11:51 <patrickarlt> tlecouffe: http://developers.geoloqi.com/api/layer/subscription/:id should tell you the current subscription status
11:57 <tlecouffe> hm... I get "error_description": "Access denied to this layer" when running layer/subscription/:id
11:58 <starbuckt> tlecouffe: did you make the layer public?
11:58 <tlecouffe> yes
11:59 <patrickarlt> its because the application made the layer tlecouffe what was the response from the subscribe call
11:59 <tlecouffe> "subscribed": "1",
12:00 <patrickarlt> then you are subscibed
12:00 <tlecouffe> although when I try and subscribe again I get "error_description": "The user id requested was not found"
12:02 <patrickarlt> tlecouffe: are you makeing requests as your user or as your application?
12:02 <tlecouffe> user.. I'm just in the API console
12:04 <patrickarlt> are you passing a user_id param in console?
12:04 <tlecouffe> yep
12:04 <patrickarlt> if you are making requests as a user user_id is implied as the currently logged in user.
12:04 <patrickarlt> user_id is for when you are making requests as you application
12:05 <patrickarlt> so if you remove the user_id param it should work
12:06 <tlecouffe> Ok.. I'm cooking now! thanks for the user training :)
12:07 <patrickarlt> tlecouffe: the user vs application auth stuff is a bit tricky at first but its a great system once you get used to it.
12:08 <patrickarlt> glad i could help just ping me if you have any more questions
12:09 <tlecouffe> one more... when I do a trigger/run:id I get random/odd events - and I am specifying a place_id
12:11 <patrickarlt> tlecouffe: if you have made your trigger on a layer (meaning the same trigger will fire for every place on the layer) you will need to specify a place_id to tell use which place you would like to use. your probally seeing strange behavior because your trigger is already at a place not a layer, try taking it out
12:19 <tlecouffe> I've created a trigger on a place and specified a place_id but I get the random trigger. I did notice when I do a layer/list the layer I've subscribed to (the one I created) is not there, but it is there and active for my user
12:21 <tlecouffe> also, when I do a place/info on the place I create I get a "error_description": "Access denied to this place" Could there be something wrong with the IDs?
12:23 <tlecouffe> ok.. I created a new place, and place/info worked correctly... now the old one did too.
12:24 <tlecouffe> (probably user error)
12:38 <patrickarlt> layer/list will only show you layers the user/app has created
12:39 <patrickarlt> you are getting the error access denied to this place because the place was made by the application (if you are using the visual editor)
12:39 <patrickarlt> we really need to make it so you can make requests as your application in the console.
12:42 <tlecouffe> I guess either or is helpful depending on what you're doing
12:42 <patrickarlt> if you create a place it creates it as your user on your users default layer not the layer you made in the visual editor
12:43 <tlecouffe> Yes! I'll have to remember that
12:44 <patrickarlt> we made the authentication structure this way so it is safer to run geoloqi in insecure client side environments (javascript and mobile apps)
12:45 <patrickarlt> so you would generally be making requests as a user on web or mobile app and make requests as your app from your sever (where its safe to do so)
12:46 <tlecouffe> yep. that totally makes sense.
