Geo trigger not working

I am brand new to Geoloqi. I've installed the iOS SDK in my app. Run the app on my phone, and the phone is successfully anonymously registering. I've also created two different triggers via cURL with successful returns. Those triggers are set to type-message with a text attached. I can manually message my phone with push through cURL and Geoloqi, but the trigger is not firing any message. Do I have to somehow associate the trigger with my phone as the user?
Is there some step I'm missing? I understood the API docs to say that a place would be automatically created. I don't really want to use layers for me app. -

You need to associate your triggers with a "Layer" then subscribe the anonymous user to that layer:
